Laid off from your Cybersecurity job ?! Do these 3 things ASAP to boost your job profile
Most people forget these three methods when doing job searches
2023 has been a bit of a bloodbath when it comes to tech-related jobs.
No one seems to be safe from the monster of layoffs be it freshers or experienced professionals.
Layoffs are tough as you have to deal with the difficult position of losing your job AND the stress of finding a new one fast
If you have been hit by a job loss then it is important to take time to process the information
A few key things to do
Step away for a while from the Internet and take time to absorb what has happened. Then start taking these steps
Start updating your LinkedIn and CV ASAP .. You can even use ChatGPT to help you out here. Make sure your LinkedIn and information is optimized to attract recruiters .. Take a look at the article below for more help if needed
Check your existing certifications and training and see how you stand against the industry. This is the perfect time to upskill and learn
Take advantage of your existing connections and increase them. This is the time to take advantage of whatever pull you have to find jobs and opportunities
With that out of the way … there are a few extra things you can do to extra eyes on your LinkedIn profile. It is amazing how powerful these methods and yet so few people try them
1 — Leverage the power of LinkedIn posts
This is what most people do when laid off:
Put the #openwork on their profile
Announce to their network their status
Start applying for jobs
However, one thing they do not do is .. WRITE LINKEDIN POSTS
If you share relevant and value-adding information about cybersecurity every day on LinkedIn .. your posts will draw traffic to your profile AND establish you as a thought leader in your field.
Instead of passively waiting for a recruiter to visit your profile .. draw traffic yourself in an active way via posting on LinkedIn
Take my tips below on this
2- Leverage the power of Medium Articles
Medium is still one of the most visited sites in the world with millions of tech professionals visiting every day.
One of them could lead to a job offer.
Take the same stuff you wrote on LinkedIn and cross-post the same on Medium ( or you can do it the other way around !) ..
You DO NOT have to be a technical expert in your field .. just write good articles that show your expertise in your cybersecurity niche but be consistent
Make sure to link your LinkedIn profile in your Medium articles to drive traffic and demonstrate your expertise
I can almost guarantee that people will start reaching out to you after they read your articles on Medium!
3 —Leverage the power of YouTube Shorts
Nothing draws people in like video content and YouTube has untapped potential for job searchers.
YouTube Shorts are another great way to send traffic to your profile
Take the same content from LinkedIn and start creating YouTube short on the same.
All you need is a phone are you are set!
Showcase your communication skills and experience as much as you can in these short videos
Make sure to include a call to action for people to visit your LinkedIn profile so they do not just visit and leave.
Create short, value-adding videos that show your skills and insights and see people reach out to you
I hope that was useful to you and showed you other ways you can attract people to your LinkedIn profile. Above all. .stay positive!
While it may seem like the end of the world .. I can guarantee that you will look back at this time and wonder how you could get so pessimistic once you land that job
