Why writing is the start to all content creation
Do not neglect writing for a successful content creation career
It seems strange to be writing about writing but let me give you a brief background on why I felt the need to put these thoughts in this article
Last year, I decided to jump into the crazy world of content creation without much prior experience …
I was going to set the world on fire with my amazing experience and laugh all the way to the bank as my digital courses made me money for early retirement
Except it did not happen and my products fizzled out as quickly as I made them .. and one year later, a humbler me realizes the main mistake which I made which was … 🥁🥁🥁
Not starting with writing
I don’t fully blame myself honestly as writing is not nearly as sexy as say creating a Youtube channel, a digital course, or launching my own coaching program and yet it is the foundation for almost every other content creation channel you can think of.
Consider the below :
🎥 A Youtube channel will not be successful if you cannot convey ideas and write a good “script” to hook the audience otherwise they will drop after a few minutes. It does not matter how attractive your editing is or how many b-rolls you put in
👨🎓️ Digital courses require you to convey ideas in a simple, easy-to-understand manner and again require a good written outline to convey those ideas
📘 Want to create an Ebook to sell on GumRoad? If you cannot write an 800-word article .. then do you really think you will be able to have the discipline to write a 5000-word E-Book?
Time and time I have seen people new to content creation jump directly into digital courses or Youtube without first creating a good foundation in writing and failing because of it.
The best thing for me was stumbling across “The Ultimate Guide to Writing Online by David Perell” which really made me deconstruct what writing meant and give it the importance it deserves.

After writing like a madman for almost a year I have seen my other content-creating efforts improve considerably.
Writing unlocks a creative part of your brain which feeds into your other works.
As you write for an audience, you will find yourself stretched to your creative limits as you think of new and compelling ways of telling a story and hooking the reader.
You will also find yourself researching and learning more about particular niches so you can widen your knowledge base and your audience.
Finding a new and interesting topic, distilling it to the simplest idea possible, and then communicating it via writing has to be one of the biggest creative “highs” you can achieve
I hope this motivates you to move beyond that blank screen and start typing away.
The key point I would remind you to keep in mind would be:
✍ ️START ! .. it has never been easier to start writing on the Internet so jump on platforms like Medium which have a built in reader base ready to give you feedback and let you know what is working and what is not
✍ Shut out the naysayers : You will find no end of naysayers telling you that writing is dead and the golden age of blogging is finished. Please shut these people out and get to work. The world has enough negativity as it is with more people adding to it.
✍ ️You will get better the more you write. Writing really is like working out a muscle and it will get stronger the more you exercise it. You will look back at stuff you wrote six months back and be amazed and how much your writing has improved.
✍ ️Writing will help your other content. Online writing will force you to put down your ideas in a way that other people can understand and set the foundation for your other content. Believe me that creating a Youtube video is much easier than writing as you have other techniques to fall back on such as video editing, effects etc. whereas writing is just you and how good you are as a story teller
Good luck on the awesome writing career ahead of you !
