Cybersecurity side-hustles — My last income report for 2022
What worked and what did not work for me in 2022
2023 is just a few days away !
I hope you have started making your New Year’s resolutions and goals which is a great way to measure how you will do throughout the year
I made a goal of writing consistently for 2022 and I have tried to stick with it as much as possible
I also made the goal of sharing tips for cybersecurity professionals on how they can make more money with their skills.
You can check them out below
One thing I tried to be was as transparent as possible about how much these tips worked for me.
I did not want to recommend anything I have not tried myself
So without further ado let us see how I did in the last months of 2022
Udemy
Udemy is a great way to make passive income and a few of my courses took off.
I have around 2 courses that are doing well on AI governance and PCI DSS while the rest are not doing that good honestly.
But just with two I am passively earning the below figures which is awesome
These are just with two courses so imagine having 5 or 6 good courses that are doing consistently those figures ?
Udemy is a great way to make passive income and you can check out my article on that below
Medium
Medium is something I have consistently talked about as I think it is a great way to create your brand, get noticed and make some nice income on the side.
While I still earned over USD 300 in December, my earnings from the Medium Partnership Program (MPP) went down this month.
However it was all for a a good reason.
That was because Medium helped me land quite a few writing gigs which took up most of my time in December.
I cannot share those numbers but they made up for whatever shortfall happened on Medium directly
I have talked about this quite a lot .. that Medium is a great way to directly make money AND send traffic to your profile for other opportunities
Self-publishing on KDP
Last two months on KDP were good although not as good as I was told happens in December.
This is mainly my mistake as I did not run Amazon Ads as I am still learning about how they work
Yet still , I launched another book on Cloud Security and that helped me make around 230 pounds in the last quarter.
I am going to try and focus more on publishing as I think it is a hard but very lucrative way to make side income.
Youtube
I have an interesting relationship with Youtube as it is simultaneously my worst and best income generating stream.
My Youtube Channel Cloud Security Guy crossed 1000 subscribers this year but my watch hours are not good enough to get my channel monetized sadly
At the same time I have a program on Thinkific in which I help people get the UK Global Talent Visa.
Youtube was the biggest traffic generation method and sent me quite a few people in the last months which earned me a nice income.
I have not mentioned that here as it is not related directly to cybersecurity and feels like cheating :)
Youtube is definitely worth putting the effort in in 2023 !
Freelancing on Fiverr
The last one I tried was Fiverr which is a great way to make some income but it is definitely not passive. You need to put the work in Fiverr to see some results and it is a VERY competitive marketplace.
If you get 10 orders then you have to put in 10 times the effort
So there you have it .. I will continue to work more on these streams and try to create new ones which I will share in the coming months
I hope this motivates you and makes you see there are still great ways to make income and monetize your cybersecurity knowledge. If you are interested in learning more check out my free Ebook below
